Meet Nathaniel - Jr Developer
Welcome to Maritime Optima, Nathaniel! Tell us a bit about yourself, about your background. Your education?
I grew up in a small village on the west coast of Norway, only a small boat ride away from Ålesund. I spent most of my childhood fishing & hiking in the various fjords and mountain ranges on the west coast.
I later moved to the eastern part of Norway where I discovered my initial interest in programming during a 1 year course in Game Development at Buskerud Folkehøgskole. I eventually moved away from game development and decided to self teach web and app development, something I have truly fallen in love with.
What are your interests?
I really enjoy watching movies, everything from Hollywood block-busters to European art-house films with weird aspect ratios you never knew existed. I also really enjoying playing video-games (the kind that allow for movie watching on the side).
What have you been doing before you joined Maritime Optima?
Before I joined Maritime Optima I worked at an Ad-agency as a web developer.
There are so many digital maritime initiatives and start-ups around. What caught your interest in Maritime Optima?
The energy and passion that radiates from employees at Maritime Optima is what caught my eye. It’s not just about creating a product. Everyone who works at Maritime Optima is there to build something worth sharing, and that matters.
What are your favorite programming languages?
I like working with technologies like typescript and React.js. In the past I’ve worked with frameworks like Next.js and CSS frameworks like TailwindCSS.
What are your responsibilities in Maritime Optima?
As a junior developer my goal is to learn as much as possible. I want to contribute to building and improving our web & mobile apps. Improving the user experience and creating a product that is enjoyable to use.
What do you look forward to working with?
I am looking forward to working on new and existing features that improve the experience for new users. I am also looking forwards to learning about backend development and moving towards becoming a full-stack developer.
What do you think might be the essential criteria for becoming a successful start-up?
We aim to build a great team where everyone matters, thrives, develops their skills, and expands their knowledge because we believe such teams are inspired and committed and will find the best solutions for the customers, the company, the people working here, and the environment.
How would you describe a great team? And what is important for you working in a company such as Maritime Optima?
A great team consists of people that make it easy to ask questions and are open to feedback and constructive criticism.
