Turkish-Owned Cargo Ship Ant Struck by Russian Drone off Odesa, Two Crew Injured

The Vanuatu-flagged cargo ship Ant (5,200 DWT, built 2006), owned by a Turkish company, was struck by a Russian drone on the night of May 28–29 while transiting Ukraine's Black Sea maritime corridor from a port in the Odesa region bound for Turkey. Two crew members were injured and a fire broke out in the vessel's superstructure.

The fire was quickly contained and extinguished with the assistance of Ukraine's Maritime Search and Rescue Service and Ukrainian Navy units. The two injured crew members were evacuated by Ukrainian Navy boats and taken to a medical facility.

The strike on Ant was part of a broader overnight attack in which Russian drones targeted three foreign-flagged commercial vessels along Ukraine's Black Sea export corridor. The two other vessels struck were sailing under the flags of the Comoros and Panama. Fires broke out on all three vessels and were extinguished by their crews.

Ant is 5,200 DWT and was sailing with cargo at the time of the attack. Russia has not commented on the strike. The incident follows a sustained pattern of Russian drone attacks on commercial vessels transiting Ukraine's maritime export corridor.

Ukrainian authorities are investigating. No independent investigation authority has been confirmed.
