Dominican Republic-Flagged Cargo Ship Progress IV Sinks in Romanian Black Sea EEZ

The Dominican Republic-flagged cargo vessel Progress IV caught fire and subsequently sank in Romania's exclusive economic zone approximately 15 nautical miles from Sfântu Gheorghe on the Black Sea coast on August 27. All 12 crew members were rescued by the vessel Mohamad B and Romanian rescue vessels SAR Ares and SAR Artemis.

Romanian President Nicusor Dan stated at a press conference that the vessel "was struck and appears to have sunk," though an investigation into responsibility is ongoing. Romanian radar detected an unidentified aerial object 33 kilometres north of Snake Island on the same day.
