EU Operation IRINI Boards Sanctioned Shadow Fleet Tanker MT Sun in Mediterranean

EU Operation IRINI boarded the sanctioned tanker MT Sun in the Mediterranean on August 31 in the sixth flag-verification inspection conducted under the operation in 2026. An Italian Navy helicopter deployed a boarding team from ITS Thaon di Revel. The vessel was identified as operating under a suspected false flag as part of Russia's shadow fleet. The operation follows earlier boardings of the Toa Payoh on August 3, the South Star on July 22, and the Deliver on June 23.
