Twin VLCC Attacks in Strait of Hormuz

Two supertankers carrying Saudi crude oil were struck by unknown projectiles within minutes of each other while exiting the Strait of Hormuz on the night of September 1. The Saudi-flagged VLCC Sidr, operated by Bahri, was hit approximately 16.6 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman. Minutes later, the Liberian-flagged VLCC Senegal Prosperity, operated by South Korea's Sinokor, was struck by three projectiles approximately 17 nautical miles east of Khasab. Vanguard Tech confirmed the projectiles struck Senegal Prosperity's port side, engine room, and ballast tank.

Both vessels were carrying approximately two million barrels of Saudi crude each, loaded at the Juaymah terminal. All crew on both vessels were reported safe and no environmental damage was detected.

Both Sidr and Senegal Prosperity are VLCCs capable of carrying in excess of 300,000 DWT - vessels whose loss would represent a significant disruption to global oil supply chains.
