The tanker, formerly known as Bella 1 and Marinera, was at the center of a two-week transatlantic pursuit by the U.S. Coast Guard in late 2025 and early 2026 amid the Venezuela sanctions campaign. It has now resurfaced under a new name "Era" and a new Comoros registry.
According to ShipIntel, the vessel changed its name from Marinera to Era on June 7, 2026.
The vessel got underway in early June and is now approaching Trinidad. Most maritime databases still list the ship under its prior name. Ownership records show a sale dated April 11, 2026, though this transaction is assumed rather than independently confirmed.
The vessel's captain pleaded guilty last week to charges of refusing U.S. Coast Guard orders during the earlier pursuit. Sentencing is set for August 7, with a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
The Department of Justice has not responded to requests for comments from media on the tanker's current legal status or its return to apparent commercial activity.
The vessel's reappearance under a new name and flag is consistent with patterns observed among sanctioned tankers seeking to resume trading following enforcement action.
