Philippine Coast Guard Deploys Waterborne Assets to Major Waterfront Fire at Parola Compound, Manila

A major fire broke out at approximately 1450 on May 23 at the Parola Compound in Delpan, Binondo, Manila - a dense waterfront residential area adjacent to the Philippine Coast Guard headquarters at the Port Area - displacing approximately 7,123 residents across around 2,000 families. No fatalities were reported.

The blaze escalated rapidly through five alarm levels to Task Force Charlie status. Fifty-five fire trucks were deployed alongside a significant PCG maritime response comprising the Metal Shark patrol boat, three RHIBs, and a fireboat. Waterborne assets were deployed to access the shoreside of the fire and provide first aid to affected residents. The fire was brought under control at approximately 0015 on May 24, after more than nine hours of firefighting operations.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed. No damage to port infrastructure or vessels at the adjacent Port Area was reported.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
