Evergreen Containership Ever Lovely Struck by Projectile off Oman, Halting Stranded Vessel Evacuation

The Singapore-flagged containership Ever Lovely (104,357 DWT) was struck by an unknown projectile approximately 7.5 nautical miles southeast of Dahit, Oman, hours after Iran's IRGC renewed radio warnings that merchant vessels require Iranian permission to transit the Strait of Hormuz.

UKMTO confirmed the vessel was hit on its starboard side, causing bridge damage. No casualties or environmental impact were reported.

Ever Lovely is operated by Evergreen Marine, built in 2015, measuring 335 metres LOA with a capacity of 9,532 TEU. The vessel was one of three Evergreen ships making the transit in an attempt to escape the Persian Gulf at the time of the strike.

The attack is the first reported strike on a commercial vessel since the U.S. and Iran signed their memorandum of understanding. It occurred one day after the IMO began coordinating the phased evacuation of vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf — a process that has since been paused as a result of the incident.

Investigation is ongoing. No group has claimed responsibility.
