The Panama-flagged bulk carrier Ocean Winner sank on August 22 approximately 240 nautical miles off the coast of Odisha, India. Two Chinese survivors rescued from a liferaft by the tanker Aisopos reported the vessel developed a severe list and sank within eight minutes, forcing all 24 crew to abandon ship. Twenty-two crew members remain missing, including 18 Chinese nationals, three Myanmar nationals, and one Bangladeshi national.
India's Coast Guard and Navy launched search-and-rescue operations. An empty lifeboat and an emergency beacon were subsequently located but no further survivors have been found as of August 25, when two Chinese vessels joined the expanded search.
