U.S. Navy Seizes Sanctioned Stateless Tanker Majestic X Carrying Iranian Oil in Indian Ocean

U.S. forces boarded and seized the sanctioned stateless vessel Majestic X in the Indian Ocean overnight, the U.S. Department of War confirmed, in the latest maritime enforcement action targeting Iranian oil shipments.

"U.S. forces conducted a maritime halt and right of visit boarding operation of the sanctioned, stateless vessel Majestic X, which was carrying oil from Iran, in the Indian Ocean within INDOPACOM's area of responsibility," the Department of War said in a statement posted to X.

The Majestic X is described as stateless and sanctioned. Vessel flag, tonnage, and cargo volume have not been publicly disclosed. No injuries or resistance during the boarding were reported.

"We will continue global maritime enforcement to disrupt illicit networks and stop vessels providing material support to Iran, wherever they operate," the Department of War added.

The seizure comes amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, which agreed earlier this week to extend the truce. Despite the extension, both countries maintain competing claims over control of the Strait of Hormuz, with control over oil flows through the waterway remaining a central point of contention in the broader peace negotiations.

The operation marks the latest in a series of U.S. maritime enforcement actions targeting Iranian oil exports during the conflict.
