Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a drone strike on an oil tanker accused of ignoring Tehran’s declared closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
IRGC-linked sources identified the vessel as the Louis P, a 2016-built product tanker. According to ShipAtlas AIS data, the vessel was recently operating near Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
At roughly the same time, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a drone strike on a vessel about 10 nautical miles north of Jubail. Most crew members were evacuated, while a small number remained onboard.
The attack follows several recent incidents after Iran warned ships not to transit the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the waterway was closed.
