US-Flagged RoRo Vessel SLNC York Evacuated in Central Pacific After Taking on Water

The US-flagged multipurpose roll-on/roll-off vessel SLNC York began taking on water on August 18 while transiting the Pacific from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Naha, Japan. The crew took immediate action to control the flooding before being transferred as a precaution to the nearby vessel Pacific Yantai, which responded to assist. The SLNC York remains stable and is being assisted into port.

SLNC York is operated by Schuyler Line Navigation Company and forms part of the U.S. Maritime Administration's Maritime Security Program, maintained as a militarily useful US-flag vessel for Department of Defense sealift requirements. The cause of the water ingress is under investigation.
