Two LNG Carriers Struck by Drones at Egypt's Port of Damietta, Fires Extinguished

Two LNG carriers were struck simultaneously at approximately 1420 GMT on July 29 at the Port of Damietta on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, causing fires on both vessels. No casualties were reported and both fires were extinguished by local emergency services.

The vessels struck were the Bermuda-flagged LNG carrier Gaslog Salem, whose crew extinguished a small fire on board, and the Marshall Islands-flagged Energos Winter, which was moved off the quayside before her fire was brought under control. Fire and rescue tugs responded rapidly from both the land side and water, preventing the fires from spreading to terminal infrastructure.

The limited impact of the strikes on both vessels is consistent with a drone attack, with reduced warhead size suggesting an extended-range launch. No group has claimed responsibility at time of publication. The attack represents a significant geographic escalation, with Damietta lying well outside previous strike zones.

Egypt has no active conflict with any member of the Axis of Resistance. Investigation into the origin of the attack is ongoing.
