The Turkish-owned general cargo vessel CENK T was damaged and caught fire in Odesa on 12 December following a series of explosions during an air raid alert linked to a suspected ballistic missile threat, Ukrainian media reported.
The incident occurred during an air raid warning in effect between 15:21 and 16:22 local time, when multiple explosions were heard across the city. Ukraine’s Air Forces had earlier warned of a ballistic missile threat from the south, with reports of high-speed targets approaching the Odesa and Chornomorsk area.
According to images and videos from the scene, the CENK T caught fire after the explosions. One person was reportedly injured, while authorities confirmed there were no chemical leaks or signs of air contamination following the incident.
The vessel is owned by Cenk RoRo. According to ShipAtlas the vessel was en route from Karasu, Turkey, to Sulina, Romania, at the time of the incident. AIS signal was last recieved 1 day ago. Damage assessments and casualty checks are ongoing, and the ship’s operational status has not yet been disclosed.
Investigations into the incident are continuing as authorities assess the extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the explosions.
