
More than 30 injured after collision between oil tanker and cargo ship in the North Sea
At 9:48 AM this morning, the Portuguese-flagged container ship MV Solong (IMO: 9322554) collided with the US-flagged oil tanker MV Stena Immaculate (IMO: 9693018) near the Humber Estuary, off the coast of East Yorkshire, England
MV Stena Immaculate (IMO: 9693018), built in 2017, was anchored in Immingham (LOCODE: GBIMM) and carrying aviation fuel at the time of the collision. The impact resulted in a substantial fire aboard the tanker.
Rescue operations were initiated quickly, involving a coastguard rescue helicopter from Humberside, lifeboats from Skegness, Bridlington, Mablethorpe, and Cleethorpes, as well as nearby vessels equipped with firefighting equipment.
Reports and footage indicate that both vessels caught fire, leading crew members to abandon the ships. As of the latest updates, 32 casualties have been brought ashore to Grimsby, with some crew members still unaccounted for.
The MV Solong (IMO: 9322554) was en route from Grangemouth, Scotland, to Rotterdam, Netherlands, when the incident occurred. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation, though visibility issues due to fog have been noted in the area.
