The Sounion continues to burn as two more ships are hit in the Red Sea
On the morning of September 2, 2024, two merchant ships in the Red Sea were attacked within hours of each other.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Organisation (UKMTO) the 158,000-dwt suezmax Delta Blue (built 2012) IMO 9601235, owned by Greece’s Delta Tankers was attacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels off Yemen's port Mokha in the middle of the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb. The ship, as most of the ships passing Strait of Bab el-Mandeb in these days, had a private armed security team on board and was withholding its AIS data. The vessel reported that she was attacked several times during the last 24 hours. The Houtis are shown to use advanced military weapons like UAVs, USVs and ballistic missiles to target shipping, as well as using small manned crafts.
The crew and the vessel are safe and are proceeding to the intended discharge port Agio Theodoroi where the vessel intend to discharge.
