Containership Source Blessing Hit by Projectile Near Jebel Ali

A containership was struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, according to a report from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The Liberia-flagged Source Blessing was sailing approximately 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali when the incident occurred at around 02:19 local time.

The vessel’s master reported a small fire in the engine room following the strike. Due to darkness at the time of the incident, the extent of the damage could not immediately be assessed.

All crew members were reported safe, and authorities said no environmental pollution has been detected.

Tracking data from ShipAtlas indicates the containership transited the Strait of Hormuz one day before the outbreak of hostilities and later loaded cargo at Hamad Port in Qatar. Since then, the vessel had been operating between anchorages off Qatar and the UAE, likely awaiting a safer transit window before returning toward the Gulf of Oman.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
