Container Ship GFS Galaxy Struck in Strait of Hormuz, Crew Abandons Ship - One Crew Member Missing

The Cyprus-flagged container ship GFS Galaxy was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on July 13, prompting the crew to abandon ship. Twenty-three crew members were rescued by the Oman Navy. An Indian third engineer remains missing.

Cyprus's Deputy Ministry of Shipping confirmed the vessel is under tow to Khor Fakkan, UAE. A search operation for the missing crew member is underway.

The IRGC claimed it struck a vessel that had "switched off its systems" and used an unauthorised route. The claim has not been independently verified.

AIS data from ShipAtlas has not been publicly linked to a confirmed vessel track at this stage.

The attack follows a pattern of IRGC maritime interdiction in the Strait of Hormuz and comes amid broader uncertainty over safe transit procedures following the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding.

Investigation is ongoing. Search and rescue operations for the missing crew member continue.
