U.S. Fighter Jet Disables Cargo Vessel Ocean Molica in Gulf of Oman After Blockade Violation Attempt

A U.S. fighter jet struck the stern of the Panama-flagged cargo vessel Ocean Molica, also known as Arika Sun, in the Gulf of Oman on October 10, disabling the vessel's propulsion after the crew ignored repeated warnings and attempted to violate the U.S. naval blockade against Iran. No crew injuries were reported.

CENTCOM confirmed the precision strike and stated the vessel had previously departed an Iranian port. The action marks the fourth commercial vessel disabled by U.S. forces since the blockade of Iranian ports resumed on July 14. Since that date, U.S. forces have turned around 135 commercial ships and destroyed 10 IRGC shadow fleet tankers.

AIS data from ShipAtlas showed the vessel broadcasting under the name Arika Sun prior to the strike - a flag of convenience name change consistent with shadow fleet evasion practices.
