The Turkish-owned LPG carrier Gas Lisbon (8,064 DWT, built 2002) caught fire off the Romanian Black Sea coast on July 21 after being struck in an attack attributed by Romanian officials to Russia. The vessel was carrying a cargo of propane at the time.
The strike occurred approximately 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast. All 17 crew members evacuated the burning vessel safely. Three injured seafarers were taken to hospital. Romania confirmed all crew were brought to safety.
The cause and nature of the strike have not been officially confirmed. No pollution has been reported at time of publication.
Investigation is ongoing.
