SCDF responds to vessel fire in East Johor straits

At around 10:30 local time am on Monday, October 21st, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to a fire onboard a vessel, the Med Atlantic (IMO: 9410533), anchored in Singapore, Singapore (LOCODE: SGSIN) in the East Johor Straits. Three marine firefighting and rescue vessels, along with 30 marine firefighting specialists from Brani and West Coast Marine Fire Stations, were deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, SCDF initiated boundary cooling to manage the situation and prevent the fire from spreading. Once the flames were under control, marine firefighting specialists boarded the vessel and extinguished the fire, which had involved the vessel's exhaust funnel, before starting damping down operations. All crew members were accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
