Panama-Flagged Crude Carrier GEM NO.2 Struck at UAE Coastal Anchorage, Fire Extinguished

The Panama-flagged crude carrier GEM NO.2 was struck by a projectile while at anchor approximately 13 nautical miles west of Al Jazeera, UAE, on October 9. A fire broke out following the strike but was subsequently extinguished. No casualties were confirmed. UKMTO issued a warning following the incident.

The strike marks a significant geographic expansion of the Iranian attack campaign, with the position well inside the Persian Gulf and far from the Strait of Hormuz itself — bringing coastal UAE anchorage waters into the active threat zone for the first time.

AIS data from ShipAtlas has not been publicly linked to a confirmed track for the vessel at time of publication.
