LPG Carrier Nice Experiences Gas Leak During Discharge in Guatemala

The LPG carrier Nice experienced a gas leak while discharging cargo at the Zeta Gas terminal at Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala on 4 March 2026.

According to Guatemala’s Ministry of National Defence, the leak occurred around 16:00 local time when a valve failed during the discharge operation, allowing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to escape.

Safety teams responded immediately and contained the leak within about 60 seconds, preventing further escalation. Authorities confirmed no injuries and no significant environmental impact.

The Norway-flagged vessel, built in 2003, has a deadweight of 44,639 tonnes, measures 205 meters in length, and is designed to carry approximately 44,600 cubic meters of LPG.
