According to Guatemala’s Ministry of National Defence, the leak occurred around 16:00 local time when a valve failed during the discharge operation, allowing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to escape.

The Norway-flagged vessel, built in 2003, has a deadweight of 44,639 tonnes, measures 205 meters in length, and is designed to carry approximately 44,600 cubic meters of LPG.
