Docker Killed in Loading Accident Aboard Ro/Ro Delphine at Port of Zeebrugge

A docker was killed in an accident aboard the ro/ro freighter Delphine at the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, on Tuesday, June 16, while the vessel was moored at the CLdN Albert II Dock.

The 54-year-old docker was on duty signalling fellow longshoremen on the vehicle deck during cargo loading operations. At approximately 1800 local time, a ro/ro tug vehicle struck a stack of containers, pinning the worker between the boxes and the bulkhead. He died at the scene.

Delphine was detained following the incident for a police investigation and forensic examination. Belgium's public prosecutor's office has opened a formal inquiry into the circumstances. The vessel has now continued its voyage.

The exact circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
