CMA CGM Everglade Hit by Projectile in Strait of Hormuz

The containership CMA CGM Everglade was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz as Iran moved to reimpose closure of the key shipping route.

According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the vessel was hit about 25 nautical miles northeast of Oman, sustaining damage to containers. No fire or injuries were reported.

The incident occurred amid a series of escalating encounters in the strait. A tanker also reported being approached and fired upon by Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) gunboats, while a cruise ship observed a projectile splash nearby.

The strike came shortly after Iran reversed its earlier position and declared the strait closed again, citing ongoing tensions with the United States. Several vessels attempting to transit the chokepoint were reportedly forced to turn back.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as risks to commercial shipping in the region intensify.
