The Bahamas-flagged general cargo ship Sunny Faith (17,221 DWT) was driven aground near the tourist town of Yantarny on the Baltic coast outside Kaliningrad, Russia, on October 9 during a severe storm with hurricane-force winds reaching approximately 60 mph. The vessel was on a ballast voyage from Skikda, Algeria, and was holding off Kaliningrad at the time.

No distress call was received. The captain confirmed to the Marine Rescue Service that no evacuation was required and that the crew of 19 were safe, stating they would await calmer conditions before tugs could attempt to refloat the vessel.
