Bulk Carrier Mayruree Naree Hit by Projectile in Strait of Hormuz

The Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayruree Naree caught fire after being struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a UKMTO incident advisory.

The vessel was located about 11 nautical miles off the coast of Oman when the strike occurred. The impact caused a fire onboard and the crew requested immediate assistance.

Most of the 23 crew members evacuated the ship, while a small skeleton crew remained onboard after the fire was brought under control.

Images from Splash shows heavy smoke coming from the vessel. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and investigate the incident.
