Blue carrier 2 continues to burn 3 days after it started

A fire broke out aboard the Greek ro/ro vessel Blue Carrier 2 on September 25 while the vessel was sailing north of Mykonos on a voyage from Syros to Samos. The vessel was carrying 166 trucks and 29 cars.

The crew abandoned firefighting operations after an initial attempt. 28 crew members and one truck driver were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

The vessel was subsequently towed from the area of Mykonos to a position southwest of Tinos, where firefighting operations have continued. At least five tugs and other vessels have been involved in operations around the casualty, including external cooling efforts.

As of September 27, the fire was still burning. Local reports indicate that chemicals carried as cargo may be contributing to the prolonged fire. The vessel has suffered extensive fire damage and has developed a slight list, with damage reportedly extending forward through the superstructure and wheelhouse. Salvage efforts are currently focused on maintaining the vessel's stability.
