About us

Maritime Optima AS was registered in April 2018 and is privately funded by serial entrepreneurs and external investors. We were awarded the Copernicus Award in 2018 and the Microsoft Startup program in October 2019. We are also supported by Innovation Norway.

Maritime Optima are building software for the shipping industry, helping users and customers make more informed choices. This is mainly done through a solid data foundation and manual enrichment by users, which they can share within teams. By intuitively presenting the data and making it possible to “play” with it, we give our customers the ability to utilize their company’s collective knowledge. We aim to create a modular product that really “makes a difference” in the maritime industry.

Our product business model is freemium, and we launched an MVP product in July 2020. We are continuously developing our product, and we are growing very quickly. Today (4th of May), we have almost 7 000 registered users. 

Our backend tech stack consists mainly of Go code running in a Kubernetes cluster on Azure, backed by a Postgres database. We combine input from different data sources. Thus the primary data sources are satellite data, public data, and user-generated data. 

We are 12 people with different backgrounds, skills, and knowledge with solid domain knowledge and a reliable maritime network. 

We have solid domain knowledge, very skilled developers and a relevant network and machine-readable data, so we are looking for an experienced shipping market analyst who wants to explore the opportunities that industry knowledge and machine-readable data will create, and help build and head a Market Research and Analytics unit in a fast-growing maritime startup located in Oslo.

The person and qualifications we are looking for
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience from shipping research and analytics 
  • Experience in data science, machine learning, and business analytics
  • Higher relevant education or equivalent work experience
  • Strong proficiency in database technologies
  • Knowledge of machine learning modeling techniques and how to fine-tune those models
  • Understanding of scripting languages 
  • Data Mining, Cleaning, and Munging
  • Data Visualization and Reporting
  • Risk Analysis and Statistical analysis 
  • You have professional integrity and dare to stand in discussions
  • You have excellent communication skills for both communication and enthusiasm.
  • Colleagues recognize you as a professional, team player, and value creator
  • Fluent in English and Norwegian
